Lucca pays tribute to Barsanti and Matteucci

  • Porta `San Pietro Lucca (map)

On Thursday 11 June, the city will celebrate the two Lucca-born inventors of the internal combustion engine with a day dedicated to their history, their legacy and the ingenuity that changed the world.

The highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the new monument dedicated to Eugenio Barsanti and Felice Matteucci, created by the artist @giuliasantariniscultura in collaboration with the metalworker Paolo Ciorli, with the architectural integration overseen by Chiara Lazzari.

A work designed to become a permanent part of the city’s heritage and to remind future generations of the contribution made by these two scientists from Lucca to the history of technology.

The day will begin with the conference "The story of a revolutionary invention: the internal combustion engine by Barsanti and Matteucci", before continuing in Piazza Monsignor Emilio Maggini (inside Porta San Pietro) with the unveiling ceremony for the monument and the start-up of the engine reconstructed by @cmef_firenze based on the original designs of the two inventors. The event will conclude with a musical performance by @ass.musicale.lucchese.
