Boccherini on Vinyl, the Luigi Boccherini Study Centre's event, invites audiences to discover, or rediscover, the beauty of Boccherini's repertoire through period recordings, dialogues, and—for the first time this year—live music. The conversation will feature Matteo Giuggioli and Marco Mangani.
The two musicologists will guide attendees on a sonic journey through the historic recordings of the celebrated Boccherini Quintet, founded in 1949 and active until the 1990s, a key figure in the Lucca-born composer's contemporary revival for decades.
The recordings that will be performed belonged to Yves Gérard and are now preserved by the Luigi Boccherini Study Centre. The two scholars' reflections will be followed by a performance by young musicians from Paolo Ardinghi's quartet class at the Luigi Boccherini Conservatory in Lucca, who will perform live some of the most significant pieces of Boccherini's repertoire.
A social gathering will follow, with an aperitif offered to all participants.
Everyone will receive a free 2025 membership card for the Luigi Boccherini Study Centre This initiative is part of the 18th-century musical program in Lucca, with contributions from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca, the Municipality of Lucca, the Giacomo Puccini Foundation, and the Ministry of Culture.
