Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra

  • Chiesa di San Francesco Piazza S.Francesco Lucca, Toscana, 55100 Italy (map)

The orchestra of one of the world's most prestigious universities, Dartmouth College, and the Orchestra Toscana dei Conservatori will perform in Lucca, the penultimate stop on their Tuscan tour. The concert will take place on Monday, December 10th, at 9:00 PM in the Church of San Francesco. Over 70 musicians from both ensembles, conducted by Maestro Filippo Ciabatti (who has been head of the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra for the past two years), will perform Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony, Puccini's "Crisantemi," and "A sera Catalani."

The project was born from a collaboration between Dartmouth University (a member of the Ivy League, along with Harvard, Columbia University, and Yale), and the Franci Institute of Music in Siena, the Cherubini Institute of Florence, the Boccherini Institute of Lucca, and the Mascagni Institute of Livorno.

The concert is free. To access the Church of San Francesco, tickets must be collected at the Teatro del Giglio box office (Mondays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM) or on the evening of the concert, starting at 8:00 PM, directly at San Francesco.

After intense joint rehearsals, the orchestra will perform an ambitious and impactful program, conducted by Maestro Filippo Ciabatti: Gustav Mahler, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, and Symphony No. 1 "The Titan," featuring soprano Antoinette Dennefeld.

A unique opportunity to see young talents in a high-level international context! This is part of a significant international project where Dartmouth students perform with Italian conservatories in venues across Tuscany, showcasing high-level musical exchange
