Oh Divine Eternal Space - Torre del Lago, Puccini in Orbit around the sun

  • Auditorium Simonetta Puccini 260 Viale Giacomo Puccini Torre del Lago Puccini, Toscana, 55049 Italy (map)

A new asteroid will officially be named Torre del Lago, following the acceptance by the International Astronomical Union of a proposal put forward by Prof. Mario Di Martino, a highly experienced astronomer.

This recognition links our region to an international scientific and cultural tradition: “Torre del Lago is symbolically entering space”

During the event “Oh divine eternal space – Torre del Lago: Puccini in orbit around the Sun”, we will discover all the details of the asteroid, which completes an orbit around the Sun in 4 years, 7 months and 10 days and has a diameter of just over 5 km.

The evening will be enhanced by a musical interlude featuring tenor Alessandro Fantoni and pianist Silvia Gasperini, thanks to the collaboration with the Simonetta Puccini Foundation, the Puccini Festival Foundation and the Academy...

Images of the Solar System and the asteroid will be projected, taking us on a fascinating journey through science, art and local identity: “a unique opportunity to explore astronomy through an immediate and engaging visual language”

🌍 A small celestial body, a great symbol for our community. Torre del Lago looks far into the distance — really far.
