Lucca Classica Music Festival

  • Chiesa di San Francesco Lucca (map)

The Lucca Classica Music Festival opens on Wednesday 29 April, and we look forward to seeing you at 9 pm in the Church of San Francesco for the opening concert, the first event in the programme dedicated to the Franciscan anniversary. The concert by the Ensemble Micrologus coincides with the Franciscan anniversary and marks the first performance in Lucca of the musical reconstruction of the Cantico, based on the oldest extant sources, alongside a selection of laude recently rediscovered from the late 12th to the first half of the 13th century.

Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi @ravasigianfranco will lead a discussion on the figure of Francis, exploring the links between music and spirituality, accompanied by the sounds of the Ensemble Micrologus @micrologus_official.

A concert that takes us back to our roots: to the origins of the lauda, to the Canticle of ‘Brother Sun’, to music created to be shared, capable of transcending time and still speaking to us today.

It will be a special opportunity to listen to the music of St Francis’s time and rediscover the Canticle in its musical form, one of the most fascinating expressions of our tradition.

A start that is already a journey.

The festival begins here.
