Lucca Classica Music Festival -Kian Soltani & Boccherini’s Cello

  • Chiesa di San Francesco Lucca (map)

On Thursday 30 April at 9.00 pm, in the Church of San Francesco, the 1694 Stradivari ‘London’ cello, once owned by Luigi Boccherini, will once again resound in Lucca, the composer’s birthplace.

It will be played by @kian.soltani_cellist, one of the most celebrated cellists on the international scene today, accompanied on the piano by Jae Hong Park @pianistpark99, winner of the 2021 Busoni Competition.

An event of great symbolic and musical significance: the instrument that once belonged to Boccherini will once again be played in the place that preserves his memory, in the church that houses his tomb.

🎶 The concert programme spans eras and musical styles, creating a dialogue between tradition and contemporary sensibilities: from Reza Vali’s Persian folk songs to Franz Schubert’s ‘Arpeggione’, right through to Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Sonata for Cello and Piano.

More than just a concert, a moment of extraordinary intensity: a rare opportunity to hear one of the most precious instruments in the history of music in the very place where it all began.

The concert is dedicated to the memory of Maestro Herbert Handt, founder of the Associazione Musicale Lucchese, on the centenary of his birth.
