Head to Vicopisano this weekend for the XXIX edition of the Medieval Festival, with street performances, a currency exchange and a market, offering you a taste of the Middle Ages.
Along the streets of the village and in the most characteristic corners that lead to the top of the hill on which stands Vicopisano dominated by the mighty Rocca del Brunelleschi, the work of the famous Florentine architect dated at the end of the fifteenth century, are located ‘taverne’ where the taverners offer frugal meals, in line with the period, and ‘rubro wine’ at will!
On the square in front of the fourteenth-century Palazzo Pretorio, the famous medieval dinner is held during which dishes are served cooked according to criteria and recipes of the time and consumed following the “galateo” of the period.
But beyond everything, what is really striking about this Medieval Festival is the magical and unreal atmosphere and the strong feeling of being constantly suspended between the present and a glorious past, a feeling that the inhabitants of Vicopisano want to share with all their guests.
