Frida Kahlo, icon of Mexican surrealism, and Marilyn Monroe, Hollywood diva and symbol of femininity, have left an indelible mark on the history of art and cinema.
The exhibition “Frida – Marilyn: Parallel Lives” brings together over 100 photographs and works to illustrate the similarities and contrasts between these two extraordinary figures, highlighting their struggles, passions and creations.
Immortalised by great photographers such as Nickolas Muray and Sam Shaw, their lives unfold in a journey that begins in childhood and continues through personal, aesthetic and emotional maturation.
Behind seemingly distant destinies, surprising similarities emerge: complex loves, denied motherhood, political commitment and the defence of their ideals.
The exhibition also features photographs by Guillermo Kahlo, Imogen Cunningham, Lucienne Bloch and Ed Feingersh, which reveal the public and more intimate sides of Frida and Marilyn, together with their links to influential figures of the time.
