Lucca is once again transforming one of its most distinctive corners into a veritable open-air art gallery.

‘I Fossi dell’Arte’ continues in 2026, an event dedicated to open-air art that brings works and artists to the heart of the historic centre, creating a unique encounter between contemporary creativity and Lucca’s historical heritage.

Painting, photography, graphic art, sculpture and other forms of artistic expression are displayed right along the streets of the city centre, allowing the public to encounter the works whilst out for a normal stroll.

This is precisely what makes ‘I Fossi dell’Arte’ so special: it is not an exhibition confined within four walls, but a route in which art and the city become part of the same setting.

The event takes place in a location steeped in a unique history.

For centuries, Lucca’s system of canals also served a productive purpose: the water powered craft workshops and factories and contributed to the development of the silk industry, to the extent that Via del Fosso became associated with the tradition of the ‘Silk Road’.

Today, that very same space serves as a backdrop for artists and visitors.
