Altopascio celebrates the 82nd anniversary of Liberation with two days dedicated to memory, history and the transmission of democratic and anti-fascist values to new generations.
🗓The initiatives, promoted by the Municipality of Altopascio together with ANPI Altopascio-Montecarlo-Porcari, will take place on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th of September.
📍The first appointment is planned on Friday, September 4, at 17.30, in Piazza della Magione, where the crown will be laid and the priest's blessing will take place. The @bandag_zei and the youth's municipal council will also be present at the ceremony, emphasizing the link between memory, community and new generations.
📍 The celebrations will continue on Saturday, September 5, from 10 am to 1 pm, in the Mediateca Room, with the screening - rotating all morning - of the documentary "Il mount dei sassi - 82 years after the assassination of Padule di Fucecchio", made by Abelardo productions, a group of citizens from Chiesina Uzzanese that, For passion and without profit purpose, he makes documentaries and audiovisual content dedicated also to the historical memory of the territory.
The work was born on the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of the Nazi-fascist massacre of Padule di Fucecchio on August 23, 1944 and continues the storytelling course started in 2024 with the documentary “All this blood”. In the center are this time the testimonies of three survivors of the massacre: Antonio Cavallini of Cerreto Guidi, Remo Mazzei of Ponte Buggianese and Vittoria Tognozzi of Monsummano Terme. The documentary takes a deeper look at what happened in the Stabbia fraction, reconstructing the criminal operations through original documents of investigations conducted by the British army in 1945, consulted by the authors at the National Archives of the United Kingdom in London.
Remembering and celebrating liberation, so that memory doesn’t just remain a recurrence, but continues to be an instrument to understand the present and defend the values of liberty, democracy, and peace enshrined in our Constitution.
