Lucca Classica Festival

From 29 April to 3 May, the Lucca Classica Music Festival returns, an event that transforms the historic centre of this Tuscan city into an open-air stage and a forum for thought and sharing. Now in its 12th edition, the festival – organised by the Associazione Musicale Lucchese – remains a premier event that brings great music into dialogue with history, art and current affairs. The programme, in fact, as always, unfolds along several thematic strands of.

It once again proves to be a premier event that brings together great music with history, art and current affairs. As always, the programme is structured around a number of themes of significant cultural, artistic and social importance, and features around 90 events.

SAN FRANCESCO 800 – To mark the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis, the Festival will dedicate more than ten events to the figure of the ‘Poverello’ of Assisi, including reflections on the relevance of his message today and – sometimes surprising – links with music and neuroscience.

EMBRACING SOUND – For this year’s festival, as always, you’ll need comfortable shoes to get around the city quickly, but also a yoga mat. The programme includes a series of sessions led by pianist Gloria Campaner, who will guide the audience on an interactive journey where listening becomes a transformative experience. "La Gioia dell’Arte" is a workshop on meditation and sharing: a space in which to explore one’s emotions through music, breathing...

THE VALUE OF COMMUNITY-, well-being and the role of young people continue to guide this year’s edition. Lucca Classica is not merely a concert series, but serves as a platform for a cultural welfare initiative. Significant emphasis is placed on initiatives that bring music into schools and care settings, as a means of fostering inclusion and self-expression.

BOCCHERINI INSTITUTE-The talented young students of the "Boccherini" Conservatoire will be performing at dozens of events, brought together under the title “Primavera”. The Conservatory orchestra will headline the final concert (3 May, 6.30 pm, San Francesco), whilst the choir, conducted by Sara Matteucci, will perform on Sunday 3 May at 12 noon in San Paolino…..and more.

The 2026 Lucca Classica Award goes to Alessandro Baricco. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday 3 May at 6.30 pm in the Church of San Francesco.
