Riccardo Muti brings his Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra, along with students from Italian conservatories, to the heart of the Lucca Summer Festival for a concert event that focuses on young musicians and the value of music as a shared heritage.
The musical program fully reflects this journey and engages naturally with the city that hosts it. Riccardo Muti has chosen to bring the great Italian symphonic and operatic repertoire outside of the theater: the program also features music by two great Lucca composers, Giacomo Puccini and Alfredo Catalani, alongside works by Giuseppe Verdi, who ideally opens and closes the concert with the overtures from Nabucco and La Forza del Destino. At the center are the Intermezzi from Giacomo Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, and Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, flanked by Gioachino Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Alfredo Catalani’s Contemplation, along with the suite from Nino Rota’s The Leopard.
