"L'Ultima Chiave" is back: this immersive tour takes visitors to iconic locations within the former Psychiatric Hospital of Lucca – opened to the public especially for the occasion – through an engaging narrative experience featuring stories, personal accounts, music and theatrical elements.

The initiative, conceived by the psychiatrist Enrico Marchi and the "UC 20 Art Collective"

At the end of the tour, participants will be invited to take part in an open discussion with the two psychiatrists present, which will explore the connection between past and present: from the history of the asylum system to the changes brought about by Law 180, right through to the contemporary challenges facing mental health services, social inclusion and the fight against stigma.

The aim is to offer not only a cultural and immersive experience, but also a space for collective reflection on issues that remain highly topical.

Through dialogue with experts, practitioners and members of the public, the project aims to highlight Maggiano’s historical legacy as a means of understanding the present and envisioning the future of mental health.

“L’Ultima Chiave” thus reaffirms its mission: to transform a visit to the site of the former mental hospital into an opportunity for learning, engagement and civic awareness, so that history is not merely remembered, but continues to challenge our times.
