Queer, the film directed by Luca Guadagnino, is set in Mexico City in the 1940s, where American Lee (Daniel Craig) has found refuge after fleeing New Orleans to avoid a drug bust. In the Mexican capital, Lee spends his time frequenting the city's bars filled with American expatriate college students, discharged soldiers and other marginalized characters living on welfare. He becomes infatuated with a discharged U.S. Navy SEAL, Allerton (Drew Starkey), a drug addict, who, although indifferent to his advances, eventually gives in, but only enough to make Lee's sexual desires even more of an obsession.
