The Jane Austen classic returns to the screen. The story follows the stories of the sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood who, together with their mother and younger sister Margaret, suddenly find themselves in economic hardship after the death of their father, whose legacy passes entirely to his half-brother John because of the laws of the time. Evicted from their family home in Sussex, the Dashwood women move to a modest cottage in Devonshire. Here the two older sisters, deeply different in temperament – Elinor is driven by prudence and control of emotions (sense, reason), Marianne with a romantic impulse and passion (sensitivity, feeling) –, they will have to navigate the rigid social conventions and the pains of their respective and tormented first loves, embodied by the figures of Edward Ferrars, John Willoughby and Colonel Brandon.
