Directed by Mike Flanagan and based on the Stephen King short story, this is a hymn to life that explores the life of Charles Krantz. The narrative unfolds in three acts, beginning with his death from cancer in an apocalyptic future and ending with his childhood, revealing the fragments and meaning of his life. Despite the looming apocalypse and fear, the film highlights what survives: love, memory, and the traces of humanity. Flanagan, with a touch reminiscent of Spielberg and Malick, directs an intimate and moving work that, while maintaining a sinister edge, defuses fear through tenderness and the acceptance of loss. It is an ensemble film that celebrates life and helps us make peace with love and death.
