Great music returns to Lucca with 62nd edition of the Sagra Musicale Lucchese, a historic festival of sacred music.
On Saturday (May 24) at 6 pm at Palazzo Ducale, the public will be offered A Piano Towards the Divine, an immersive and spiritual experience. The protagonists of the evening are baritone Mitchell Hutchings and pianist Fabio Menchetti, engaged in a program that intertwines the sacred and virtuosity, meditation and passion.
The concert will be a sonic journey through centuries of sacred music, transcribed or composed for piano and voice. The repertoire opens with famous transcriptions from Bach: Sheep may safely graze (from Cantata Bwv 208) according to the elaboration of Egon Petri, Jesu, joy of man’s desiring in the famous version by Myra Hess, and two intense choral preludes according to the transcription by Ferruccio Busoni. It continues with the poignant Pietà, Signore! attributed to Alessandro Stradella, and with the Confutatis and Lacrymosa from Mozart’s Requiem in the transcendental version by Franz Liszt.
Mitchell Hutchings, a baritone trained in the United States, is a multifaceted artist and passionate teacher. His career stands out for his leading roles in opera, collaborations with prestigious companies and a commitment to vocal training that has led him to hold international masterclasses and lead innovative programs such as Opera Hack 3.0. His voice will give body to the depth and emotional tension of the program.
Alongside him, Fabio Menchetti, a pianist from Lucca who has built a solid international career between Europe and the United States. With a high-level training and an increasingly rich discography, Menchetti brings to the stage the interpretative sensitivity of someone who knows the sacred and romantic repertoire intimately, managing to make it accessible without ever trivializing it.
A concert, scheduled for Saturday, that speaks not only to enthusiasts, but to anyone who feels the need for deeper listening and a break from the noise of everyday life.
