A concert at the Lucca hospital, curated by the Cappella Musicale “Santa Cecilia” of the Cathedral of Lucca, together with a health promotion event dedicated to blood donation and screening campaigns.
The initiatives will take place simultaneously on Saturday 10 May starting at 3:30 pm in the atrium of the “San Luca”, with the great Coro Lucchese who will provide emotions and with health workers who will be able to raise awareness among the citizens present on the importance of donating blood and blood components and of participating in the screening programs of the Azienda USL Toscana nord ovest. The Cappella Musicale “Santa Cecilia” of the Cathedral of Lucca - today directed by maestro Luca Bacci and with Niccolò Bartolini on the organ - has its historical origins in the Cappella Musicale of the same name that presided, during the 18th century, over all the most important musical performances of the Republic of Lucca and of which the musician ancestors of Giacomo Puccini were directors. Refounded, on the initiative of virtuoso musicians from Lucca, in 1930, the “Santa Cecilia” Chapel became the Cathedral choir in 1966.
In addition to the liturgical service in the Cathedral and the performance, every year, of the famous "Mottettone" for the feast of Santa Croce, the choir has been involved, for many years, in a significant concert activity in collaboration with the many activities of the city and province of Lucca, including the "Sagra Musicale Lucchese", the "Festival Pucciniano" of Torre del Lago, "Opera Barga" and the "Associazione Musicale Lucchese".
The "Santa Cecilia" Chapel has achieved significant successes in the major Italian cities, with concerts and performances in Rome, Milan (in the Duomo), Venice (in San Marco), Bologna (in San Petronio), Florence (in Santa Croce), Naples, Verona, Padua and many others.
During various tours abroad the choir has performed in Caen, Monte Carlo in Monaco, in Notre Dame in Paris, Vienna, Munich, Strasbourg, Colmar, Schongau, Saint Niklaas and in the Cathedral of Brussels on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Puccini's death in 1994, as well as at the great Puccini concert held at the "Palau de la Musica" in Valencia in front of an audience of more than 3000 spectators in 1999.
