Lucca is aiming to break the world record with a four-kilometre-long floral display on the city walls. The “Festival Arti Effimere Guinness Edition Lucca 2026” is coming!!
The “Festival Arti Effimere Guinness Edition Lucca 2026” is scheduled to take place on Saturday 22 August on the city walls of Lucca. The event aims to enter the Guinness World Records by creating a monumental carpet stretching over 4 kilometres, focusing on the history, tradition and art of Lucca and its province. The event – organised by the Camaiore Sawdust Carpets Association – was conceived to celebrate Italy’s UNESCO nomination of the ‘Floral Carpets of Ephemeral Art’ project, involving five countries (Italy, Belgium, Malta, Spain and Mexico)
“The choice of Lucca is no coincidence,” said the association’s president, Massimiliano Turba, “but is driven by two key reasons: firstly, because it is a symbol of culture and beauty, recognised worldwide; and secondly, because the UNESCO nomination lends itself to working on a monument such as the Walls of Lucca.”
A total of 15 scenes depicting the history of Lucca and its province will be created, showcasing the places, events and traditions that have always characterised the area. The official record to be broken for the world’s longest flower carpet is currently held by the city of Huamantla (Mexico), where a flower carpet measuring 3,939.53 metres was created on 14 August 2022.
