Tjeknavorian, Fliedl, Orchestra della Toscana

  • Teatro del Giglio 13 Piazza del Giglio Lucca, Toscana, 55100 Italy (map)

Following Tutto Mozart with maestro Zubin Mehta and the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the symphonic programme at the Teatro del Giglio Giacomo Puccini continues on Saturday 21 March at 9 p.m. with a concert by the Orchestra della Toscana, which returns to perform at the Giglio with a programme spanning three fundamental seasons of European musical sensibility.

On the podium, conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, accompanied by cellist Jeremias Fliedl, takes us on a journey from the Nordic symbolism of Jean Sibelius to the classical clarity of Joseph Haydn, ending with the vital and enthralling energy of Ludwig van Beethoven. A musical journey that brings different eras and languages into dialogue, revealing how expressive tension, formal clarity and the power of musical gesture can be transformed, from composer to composer, into different ways of recounting the musical history of Europe.

Music director of the Milan Symphony Orchestra since September 2024 and winner of the Abbiati Award for conductor of the year, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian has consolidated a leadership style characterised by energy and clarity, without losing the curiosity of a violinist who experiences sound “first-hand”. The programme he proposes with the Orchestra della Toscana is a journey that seems tailor-made for his identity: Viennese in training and culture, but capable of venturing into different emotional climates, even those “shadow zones” that in music are never simply darkness
