On Tuesday, 3 March, at 11:30 a.m., a faithful replica of the sculpture attributed to Donatello, now preserved in the National Museum of Villa Guinigi, will be inaugurated and returned to its historic location.
This project restores a symbol of identity to the city, combining protection, innovation and enhancement of the historic centre.
The project was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Lucca, the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Lucca, Massa Carrara and Pistoia, the Rotary Club Lucca, the National Museum of Villa Guinigi, the Archdiocese of Lucca and the Italia Nostra association - Lucca section. The collaboration was formalised with the signing of the Programme Agreement last June with the aim of relocating the copies of the Madonnas removed for conservation reasons.
