"Last Hours of Maggiano" by Giancarlo Vaccarezza Opening Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the former Maggiano Hospital

Besides the artist, speakers will include Isabella Tobino, President of the FMT, Giorgio Pini, Child Neuropsychiatrist, and Nicola Micieli, Art Critic.

Giancarlo Vaccarezza's solo exhibition opens for the first time at the former Maggiano Hospital, where he long accompanied and taught inmates to paint in the Occasioni workshop. From 1987 to 1999, the painting workshop took place through biweekly meetings under the guidance of Vaccarezza, who was later joined by sculptor Edoardo Nardini.

The workshop involves painting on pieces of plywood recovered from the asylum's carpentry workshop. Even the easels and palettes are handmade. It offers opportunities to reclaim desires, abilities, and skills to escape the asylum. So that the asylum can be closed. For good.

Vaccarezza, through his paintings, inspired by the inmates, bears witness to the asylum's final years. The exhibition, organized by the Mario Tobino Foundation in the Palazzo Medici, will open on Saturday, September 20th at 5:00 PM.

The exhibition is open until Friday, October 10th on the following days: Monday and Wednesday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Free admission. MORE INFO
