Verso Turandot

  • 13 Piazza del Giglio Lucca, Toscana, 55100 Italy (map)

Maestro Nicola Luisotti will be a special guest at the Teatro del Giglio Giacomo Puccini on Wednesday 4 March (8.30 pm, Teatro del Giglio) for “Turandot and its mysteries”, the highlight of “Verso Turandot”, a comprehensive programme of conferences, meetings and study sessions dedicated to the complexity of the Maestro's last opera, organised by the Teatro del Giglio Giacomo Puccini in close collaboration with the Centro Studi Giacomo Puccini and the Fondazione Giacomo Puccini in the centenary year of the premiere. IN ITALIAN

Luisotti's presence lends international prestige to the meeting: the Maestro, one of the most acclaimed interpreters of the Italian repertoire in the world, will arrive in Lucca a few weeks after his highly anticipated engagement at the Teatro alla Scala, where in April he will conduct Giacomo Puccini's last, enigmatic opera. His testimony will offer a privileged and “live” perspective on the score, combining the rigour of orchestral conducting with the interpretative sensitivity of someone who deals with the legacy of the Lucca-born Maestro on a daily basis.

Together with Maestro Luisotti, a group of highly distinguished scientific and artistic figures will gather at the Giglio to analyse the constellation of questions that still surround Puccini's unfinished masterpiece, offering the public a multidisciplinary journey that intertwines music, interpretation and art: Gabriella Biagi Ravenni (musicologist and president of the Giacomo Puccini Study Centre), Virgilio Bernardoni (president of the National Edition of Giacomo Puccini's Works), Paolo Bolpagni (art historian and director of the Ragghianti Foundation), Patrizia Mavilla (director of the Simonetta Puccini Foundation) and Marco Tutino (composer and artistic director of the Verdi Theatre in Pisa).
