Giare d’arte - Figures of Memory At the National Museum of Palazzo Mansi, the exhibition of the works created by students during the workshop led by artist Lorenzo Vignoli for Sentiment of Beauty.
Giare d’arte - Figures della memoria features more than forty works, presented as a single installation, almost a collective work created within the laboratory «Figures della memoria» that the students of the Passaglia Art and Music High School created with the artist Lorenzo Vignoli.
Begun with a visit to the National Museum of Palazzo Mansi, with a meeting with the Director Luisa Berretti, the President of Sentiment of Beauty odv Eva Perini and with the artist Lorenzo Vignoli, the laboratory then developed in the spaces of the Passaglia High School Construction Site, where the students created their works.
The Museum was a place of inspiration where the encounter with paintings, plaster casts, bronzes and terracottas made between the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth century by authors and craftsmen from Lucca took place, works that speak of our past, while indicating a direction to go. The attention was focused especially on some sculptures in Neoclassical style that were drawn from life and then reworked and transformed during the second part of the workshop.
The material chosen to carry out this project was ceramic, to also take advantage of the excellent equipment that the school has.
Starting from an element used by the artist Lorenzo Vignoli in some of his recent works, the children were inspired by the shape of the jar, an empty object ready to also metaphorically collect everything that had been visually and conceptually received at the museum, almost as if they wanted to strengthen a bond between the artisanal object and the mastery needed to make it.
Lorenzo Vignoli’s intent was precisely to demonstrate the different skills needed to work in the world of art: knowing, thinking, designing, giving shape, accompanied by the technical knowledge and skills to best use the materials and tools of the trade. Hence the difficulty of treating clay, knowing its properties to ensure that the artifact does not crack during firing in the special oven.
