For the first time in Pisa, two masterpieces by Sandro Botticelli return to Tuscany. From the Jacquemart-André Museum in Paris, the Madonna and Child and the Flight into Egypt arrive at Palazzo Blu: two works that symbolize the grace and perfection of the Italian Renaissance. A unique event celebrating Botticelli's genius and the dialogue between Pisa and Paris, between the Renaissance and the Belle Époque.

A meeting of centuries, cultures, and timeless beauty.

The works are the Virgin and Child and the Flight into Egypt, purchased in Italy from Florentine antique dealers at the end of the 19th century and housed in the French museum, born from the passion for art of the husband and wife Edouard André and his wife Nélie Jacquemart, and later passed under the aegis of the Institut de France. The exhibition of the two works also allows us to reconstruct a little-known chapter in Botticelli's presence in Pisa in 1474, engaged in a draft for the Cappella dell'Incoronata in Pisa Cathedral, of which no trace remains.

The Parisian museum boasts a collection of works by artists of extraordinary value, particularly for Italian art, including some of the protagonists of the Italian Renaissance: Paolo Uccello, Mantegna, Donatello, Bernardino Luini, and Sandro Botticelli.

The two masterpieces come to Palazzo Blu thanks to a prestigious collaboration with the Jacquemart-André Museum, and with the support of the Pisa Foundation, which has loaned the works "Clio. Muse of History" by Artemisia Gentileschi and "Portrait of Artemisia Gentileschi" by Simon Vouet, presented at the exhibition "Artemisia. Heroine of Art," which concluded in Paris last August. The exhibition is organized by Palazzo Blu with the scientific curators Gigetta Dalli Regoli and Stefano Renzoni and marks an exchange of friendship between the Pisa museum, the Pisa Foundation, and the Jacquemart-André Museum. The two works will be housed in the permanent collection until February 15, 2026.
