Jazz at Caffe di Simo

  • Caffe di Simo 58 Via Fillungo Lucca, Toscana, 55100 Italy (map)

The Circolo Lucca Jazz, presents a series of dedicated concerts, promoting the rediscovery and enhancement of one of the symbolic places of the city: the Caffè Di Simo and on Friday April 17th at the reopening a concert of great artistic value: the duo formed by Sara Maghelli and Ugo Bongianni..

Sara Maghelli is considered one of the most appreciated voices of Italian jazz. Her style ranges with elegance from the most famous standards to more sought-after repertoires, thanks to a musical path started from a very young age with the study of violin and piano. Subsequently she devoted himself to singing, deepening the vocal technique as a real musical instrument. She trained with numerous teachers and participated in masterclasses and seminars with important protagonists of the Italian and international jazz scene, also developing an intense teaching activity.

With Ugo Bongianni she formed a consolidated and close-knit duo, who will perform on this occasion. A very talented pianist, Bongianni was born with classical training and then approached jazz, studying with masters such as Mauro Grossi and Riccardo Arrighini. Duri ng his career he has collaborated with numerous important artists, including Danilo Rea, Lele Melotti, Massimo Moriconi, Mario Biondi and many others. Since 2003 he has been working permanently with Mina, for whom he has been working in arrangements and participating in the executions as a pianist, keyboardist and programmer.

Music has always played a central role in its history: among its visitors we remember great composers such as Giacomo Puccini, Alfredo Catalani and Pietro Mascagni. There were also important figures in Italian literature, including Giosuè Carducci, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Giovanni Pascoli and Enrico Pea. Caffè Di Simo has thus established itself as a privileged place of comparison for the best minds of the time.

The restaurant has hosted musicians such as Chet Baker, the I 4 quartet in Lucca and numerous artists and enthusiasts from Lucca, including Rudy Rabassini, Paolo Benvenuti, Enrico Tadini, Franco Matteoli, Mauro Molteni and Giangi Zucchini, who have always been visitors and lovers of the genre.
