The Archdiocese of Lucca with the Boccherini institute present a conference and concert. "Three Centuries of Sacred Music in the Archdiocese of Lucca" with Professor Fabrizio Guidotti, historian and musicologist specialising in the history of sacred music in Lucca. The focus of the conversation will be the difficult coexistence between the sacred and the profane, the educational function of sacred music, and the influence of the Second Vatican Council on the production of sacred music, with the introduction of the Italian language and women's access to choral singing.
After the conference, there will be a performance of unpublished works by 18th-century Lucca composers: Giacomo Puccini senior, Antonio Puccini, and Francesco Xaverio Geminiani. The performances will be performed by the Baroque Ensemble of the "L. Boccherini" Conservatory, conducted by Maestro Ottaviano Tenerani, a specialist in Baroque performance practice. The scores are from the Conservatory Library, where they are preserved.
The performers of the music by Puccini and Geminiani are Sofia Borraccino, soprano; Teresa Dereviziis and Ester Saccenti, violins; Maria Biagioni, viola; Rachele Nucci, cello; Natalia Monserrat Ulloa Rodriguez and Valeria Agrosì, flutes; and Paolo Giorgi, harpsichord. Admission is free. The complete program of the celebrations for the 300th anniversary of the elevation to Archdiocese can be found at www.diocesilucca.it
