To celebrate the month of Luccian tradition and identity, September Lucensis is back, the program of initiatives promoted by @comune_di_lucca in collaboration with the town historical associations.

It is time for September Lucensis fourth edition, the program of initiatives dedicated to the month of Lucca traditions promoted by the Municipality of Lucca as part of the Lucca Historiae project. "September has always been the month where the city community gathers around the Holy Cross to celebrate and celebrate our identity - comments the councillor with delegation to the historical traditions Lorenzo Del Barga - Also this year as a municipal administration we wanted to re-propose a unique calendar that enhances the many historical initiatives organized by the realities of the territory, so as to offer the citizenry a wide program of events to rediscover the history of Lucca from multiple points of view".

For Lucca, September is the feast of the Holy Face, a wooden crucifix kept in the Cathedral of San Martino. Legend has it that it came from the Holy Land and depicts the features of Christ. According to science, it is the oldest wooden sculpture in the West.

The first event scheduled will be the tenth edition of Medieval Lucca, the two days realized by the Contrade San Paolino where you can relive the Middle Ages among the pews of ancient crafts, duels of knights and shows of street artists. Saturday from 3pm to 11pm and Sunday from 10am to 8pm on the bastion of San Paolino.

Saturday 12 will be an afternoon full of initiatives that will begin at 16 on the San Martino bulwark with L’Occhio di Lucca, the event organized by Historica Lucense that evokes the ancient defensive and signaling system at the time of the Republic. At 5pm in Piazzale Verdi the Palio di Santa Croce returns, where the best crossbowmen from Lucca will return to challenge each other after the July palio dedicated to San Paolino.

Sunday 13 will be the day of the eve of the great feast and will see in the evening the historic Luminara di Santa Croce cross the streets of the centre, from this year illuminated with additional structures of lights prepared by the Municipality. The procession will be preceded in the afternoon, at 3pm on the San Martino bulwark, by the Gazzarra di Santa Croce, the traditional artillery show.

Friday 18 will be re-proposed the Meeting with the schools, the highly appreciated morning dedicated to the history of Lucca where students of the Lucca primaries will be able to learn about the historical groups of the city. The program will continue until 27.
