Slow Beans 2025: Capannori, Capital of Legumes and Farming Communities .
The highlight of Slow Beans 2025 will be the weekend of November 15th and 16th, when the Marlia Market will become the beating heart of the festival. From 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on both days, the public will be able to visit the Market Exhibition, featuring the Italian and international Slow Beans communities. They will discover the many varieties of beans, chickpeas, lentils, and other traditional legumes, and meet the producers at the stalls of "Il Mercato dei Mercati," which unites the rural communities of Lucca with the Tuscan Earth Markets. There will also be several themed areas: the Enoteca, curated by Fabio Pracchia and Sfusobuono, dedicated to everyday, quality wine; the Elaioteca, featuring Slow Food Presidium oils, described by agronomist and oil taster Paolo Scialla; and the Radical Brewery's agricultural brewery, which will tell the story of "from the field to the glass." The little ones will find workshops and games offered by Piana del Cibo in the Kids Area, with "Let's Cultivate Taste" curated by Benedetta Bernardini and the educational exhibition "Through the Eyes of Children: Our Land in Comics" illustrated by Valerio Barchi.
The Meeting Area will host conversations and testimonials throughout the weekend: from the story of the Slow Beans network to the protocol between Vetrina Toscana and Slow Food Tuscany, from the theme of the return to bulk wine to the legume workshop with Meatless Monday, up to the presentation of the comic "La Zuppa di Durvere" and "Facce da Fagiolo 2.0," a photo shoot showcasing the faces and stories of the protagonists.
On the evening of Saturday, November 15th, the festival opens with entertainment with the show "Il Pranzo della Domenica" at Artè, an event featuring music, cuisine, films, and stories curated by Don Pasta, a renowned writer, artist, and performer. This will be followed at 9:30 pm by a buffet dinner at the Scuola di Capannori, organized in collaboration with Qualità & Servizi.
On Sunday, November 16th, the public will be able to attend and participate in one of the most anticipated events, the Fagioliadi, a challenge to the last legume with a popular jury that will liven up the day from 12:00 to 15:00. The afternoon continues with the exhibition “Facce da Fagiolo 2.0,” the music of “Slow Folk,” the “La Luna e lo Sfuso” competition for bulk natural wines curated by Fabio Pracchia, and concludes at 5:00 pm with the Fagioliadi awards ceremony.
