The Volto Santo: official reopening — Celebrations and official events on 19 June

The lengthy restoration programme, which has involved the Volto Santo and Matteo Civitali’s Tempietto since 2022, can finally be said to have been completed. Following the delicate relocation of the wooden sculpture within the Tempietto, a meticulous reinstallation took place over the course of approximately one month.

On Friday 19 June, the Volto Santo will once again be fully visible and accessible to the many visitors and worshippers who the cathedral every day.

To mark this important occasion for the church and the whole city, two events are planned: at 9.00 am, His Excellency Monsignor Paolo Giulietti will preside over Holy Mass in front of the Tempietto, whilst at 6.30 pm the public is invited to a brief address by the authorities, followed by a moment of prayer led by the Cathedral Chapter.

A long-awaited return, restoring to everyone one of the most iconic and beloved symbols of our community.
