The Antique Dealer & the Gallery Owner

  • 3 Via San Micheletto Lucca, Toscana, 55100 Italy (map)

The Ragghianti Foundation continues its series of meetings dedicated to the "Global Art Market" with the second event:

"The Antique Dealer and the Gallery Owner: Characteristics and Evolution of Two Key Figures in the Art System," scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, at 6:00 pm in the Ragghianti Foundation's "Vincenzo Da Massa Carrara" conference room (Via San Micheletto, 3, Lucca).

Admission is free, subject to availability. The series, coordinated by Clarice Pecori Giraldi, an internationally renowned art advisor with over forty years of experience in the art world, explores the dynamics and transformations of the contemporary art market in an increasingly global and interconnected context. This second event will be a roundtable discussion comparing two key figures in the art world—the antiques dealer and the gallerist—to analyze their roles, differences, and evolution over time. Led by Pecori Giraldi, the discussion will include Bruno Botticelli, secretary general of the Florence International Antiques Biennial (BIAF) and president of the Italian Antique Dealers Association, a gallerist with a long family tradition, and Sirio Ortolani, president of the National Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries (ANGAMC) and founder of the Osart Gallery in Milan. Ortolani is the son of Daniela Palazzoli, a prominent figure in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and a descendant of Peppino Palazzoli, a gallerist who was among the first to exhibit works by artists such as Lucio Fontana and Alberto Burri in Milan. The evening will open with Alberto Fontana, president of the Ragghianti Foundation.

The discussion will focus on the changes that have shaped the market for ancient and contemporary art: from new forms of collecting to the growing role of technology and digital platforms, to the challenges and opportunities facing antique dealers and gallery owners today. There will also be anecdotes, personal experiences, and reflections on the future of two professions that continue to shape the relationship between art, the public, and the market. The "Global Art Market" series, which successfully opened on October 14th, will conclude on January 21st with a meeting dedicated to key figures in the museum world and the challenges of managing and promoting collections in the digital age.
